The Artist

A graduate of the Carrara Accademia Belle Arti in 1999, this Korean born artist is currently living in Seoul, South Korea.

Hwang has a high profile internationally and has participated in over 30 symposiums worldwide.

His highly recognisable style can be seen in a number of significant public commissions in Bahrain, Damascus, Korea, Australia, Norway, Spain and the United Arab Emirates.

His themes often include paper and related culture focused on the importance of communication and the accumulation of knowledge. Hwang made an important connection with the people of the Lobethal community and was mindful of their history as the home of the Onkaparinga Woollen Mills. For this piece Hwang chose to portray blankets and textiles.

His sculpture won the 'People's Choice Award' at the inaugural Adelaide Hills International Sculpture Symposium in 2012.
